Dr. Walker, DVM
Dr. Walker has more than two decades of experience caring for pets when it matters most. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Illinois in 2001 and went on to complete a rigorous small-animal rotating internship at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Greensboro, North Carolina, with advanced training in Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine and Surgery.

In 2002, Dr. Walker relocated to Virginia Beach, where he spent 13 years caring for emergency and urgent-care patients at Beach Veterinary Emergency Center. His career has been deeply rooted in helping pets through unexpected illness and injury, guiding families through stressful moments with clear communication and compassionate care.

After several years providing relief services and additional experience in general practice, Dr. Walker joined Strawbridge Animal Care full time, where he practiced until 2024. In 2024, he saw a need for additional urgent care options for pets. He partnered with Dr. Blair Hollowell to open Unleashed Veterinary Care in Chesapeake, with the goal of providing accessible, high-quality urgent and emergency veterinary care for the community.

When he is not at work, Dr. Walker enjoys reading science fiction and fantasy novels, particularly those by Brandon Sanderson. He also enjoys traveling, playing games, and spending time with his family. At home, he is kept busy by his three dogs, three cats, his daughter, his wife, and his mother-in-law. With a full household, there is never a shortage of activity—or projects—waiting to be done.

Dr. Walker understands how frightening it can be when a pet suddenly needs medical attention. He is committed to delivering thoughtful, thorough care while helping pet owners feel informed, supported, and confident in the decisions being made for their pets.

Practice Manager

Shannon M. Smith, LVT
Practice Manager

Shannon was born in Arkansas and raised in Mississippi, where her lifelong passion for animals began early. As a child, she had an unshakable – affection and a bit of curiosity – for animals, often bringing home injured pets to “fix,” much to her mother’s dismay. That early drive turned into a calling during her senior year of high school when she began working at a local veterinary clinic and quickly realized veterinary medicine was her path.

Shannon attended veterinary technology school in 2001 at Hinds Community College and Mississippi State University, graduating in 2003 as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Her husband’s military career brought their family to Virginia Beach, where she discovered her love for emergency medicine while working at Tidewater Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2004.

Her husband’s job later took the family to Charlottesville, where Shannon spent several years serving as a clinic supervisor. After returning to the Hampton Roads area, she began working alongside a local veterinary surgeon, where she developed a strong passion for pain management, anesthesia, and surgery. With more than three decades of experience in veterinary medicine, Shannon has gradually transitioned from hands-on floor work into referral coordination and, most recently, her role as Practice Manager here at Unleashed.

Shannon resides in Virginia Beach with her husband, their two children, and a lively household that includes Han So Low, a mini Dachshund; Gonzo, a long-haired Dachshund; and a collection of freshwater fish. Outside of work, she enjoys supporting her children at sporting events, cooking, gardening, road biking, aquascaping freshwater aquariums, outdoor goldfish pond care, grooming, listening to music, and helping find homes for pets in need.

Since joining our team in late 2025, Shannon has been committed to continuously improving our hospital, strengthening our team, and enhancing the quality of care and service we provide to our patients, clients, and community.

Morgan

Assistant Practice Manager

Morgan didn’t grow up planning a career in veterinary medicine; she just grew up surrounded by animals and the people who helped them. At 14, she began working at a rural animal shelter in Kentucky. By 19, she secured an $80,000 PetSmart grant to run her county’s Trap-Neuter-Return program, helping spay and neuter over 1,800 feral cats. This early experience taught her that good medicine is about showing up and doing work that matters.

In 2017, she relocated to Virginia Beach, finding her passion in fast-paced emergency and urgent care medicine. She later helped launch a local urgent care program before proudly joining the founding team at Unleashed Veterinary Care in June 2024, where she roomed their very first patient. Having worked nearly every role over the past 15 years—from triage and inpatient assistant to customer service representative—Morgan now serves as the Assistant Manager at Unleashed.

She believes veterinary care should be skilled, honest, and compassionate, but above all, human. If you have seen Unleashed’s viral TikToks, that is likely her using humor to make vet med feel a little less intimidating and a lot more approachable.

Outside the clinic, she is happily married and loves traveling abroad and reading. Morgan’s home is run by two golden retrievers, Heathen and Butcher, and two cats, Kennedy and Rooster Cogburn.

Kim

Veterinary Assistant

Kim has been proudly working in the veterinary field since 2009. Her journey began as a groomer’s assistant, and over the years, she has had the privilege of working across local general practices, the SPCA, and now, right here at Unleashed. Kim loves this field and fully intends to make it her lifelong career. For her, the most rewarding part of medicine is getting to watch patients heal and thrive.

Her ultimate goal is to channel her years of experience into eventually founding a startup animal sanctuary or rehabilitation center, specifically focusing on helping wildlife in areas where they need it most.

At home, Kim’s life is just as animal filled. She is a proud pet parent to two male guinea pigs, Heads and Tails, as well as her beloved canine companions Max, a 12-year-old Shepherd, and Marceline “M&Ms”, a 3-year-old Bulldog.

Amber

Veterinary Assistant

Amber is a veterinary assistant with eight years of experience in veterinary medicine. Currently attending tech school to further her training, Amber is passionate about providing calm, compassionate care in high-stress situations. She specializes in working with patients who have behavioral challenges, focusing on low-stress handling and building trust with both pets and their people. Known for her steady presence and dedication to animal welfare, Amber is committed to supporting patients and clients through even the most critical moments. She loves German Shepherds and does dog training in her off time.

Haley
Haley
Veterinary Assistant

Haley is a Virginia Beach native and Pungo, VB local. She spent her childhood taming feral barn kittens, swimming in Knotts Island Bay, and riding horses competitively in the local Virginia Beach hunter/jumper circuit. She graduated from Ferrum College with a double major in psychology and biology in 2015.

From working at horse farms to dog training, she found her home in veterinary medicine in 2018. Starting off working at local animal shelters, she has fostered over 50 animals, which led to her own mismatched pack of “foster fails” that bring joy (and chaos) to her life every day.

Haley has been working at Unleashed Veterinary Care since March 2025, and at our sister clinic, Great Neck Veterinary Clinic, since September 2025. She loves the fast-paced environment, the opportunities to learn daily, and the sense of accomplishment she feels after her shifts are finished.

Stephanie
Stephanie
Veterinary Assistant

Stephanie has been a veterinary assistant for the past 14 years and has been part of the Unleashed Veterinary Care team since the practice opened in 2024. She is currently pursuing her Veterinary Technician license and is passionate about advocating for patients who cannot speak for themselves.

Stephanie strives to provide compassionate, high-quality care while fostering trust with both clients and colleagues. She finds veterinary medicine incredibly rewarding and values the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families.

At home, she shares her life with four cats, making for a lively household. Outside of work, Stephanie enjoys going to the gym, hiking, reading, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and spending as much time outdoors in the sunshine as possible.

Angee

Customer Service Representative

With over 25 years of experience in the veterinary field, Angee is a passionate and caring Client Service Representative Unleashed. Her journey in veterinary medicine began while she was in college, when she was given her first opportunity in Anchorage, Alaska. That early experience sparked a lifelong dedication to helping pets and supporting the people who love them.

Now based in Virginia Beach, Angee is proud to serve the Hampton Roads community she calls home. Known for her calm, compassionate approach and clear communication, she is often the first friendly face clients see during stressful moments. When she’s not caring for pets and their people, Angee enjoys hiking with her dogs and spending time with friends and family.
